Henri Alekan

Henri Alekan (10 Februari 1909, Paris – 15 Juni 2001, Auxerre, Bourgogne) merupakan seorang sinematografer berkebangsaan Prancis.

Kehidupan

Alekan lahir di Montmartre pada tahun 1909. Pada usia 16 tahun , ia dan saudaranya menjadi pemain boneka keliling. Tak lama kemudian ia mulai bekerja sebagai asisten ketiga seorang kameraman di Studio Billancourt. Selanjutnya ia pergi untuk menjalankan tugas militernya untuk sementara waktu, dan kembali ke Billancourt pada tahun 1931.

Pada akhir tahun 1930-an ia menjadi operator kamera untuk Eugen Schüfftan di Le Quai des brumes dan Drôle de drame Marcel Carné. Ia sangat dipengaruhi oleh gaya non-naturalistik Schufftan. Sukses pertamanya sebagai seorang sinematografer adalah drama perang realistik René Clément La Bataille du rail tahun 1946. Pada tahun yang sama ia mengerjakan dongeng Jean Cocteau, La Belle et la Bête.

Ia merasa simpati dengan bioskop Prancis New wave yang muncul pada akhir 1950-an dan Alekan merekam beberapa film yang agak konvensional di Hollywood. Beberapa sutradara generasi baru menghargai gayanya yang visioner, dan ia bekerja dengan Raúl Ruiz pada O Território dan Het dak van de walvis serta dengan Wim Wenders pada Der Stand der Dinge dan Wings of Desire. Film terakhirnya dibuat dengan sutradara Israel Amos Gitai.^[1]

Ia menulis salah satu buku terbaik tentang sinematografi Des lumières et des ombres (1984, Éditions du Collectionneur).

Kematian

Alekan meninggal karena leukemia 15 Juni 2001 di Auxerre, Bourgogne, pada usia 92 tahun. ^[2] Ia dimakamkan di Pemakaman Montparnasse, Paris.
