Strawberry Fields Forever
"Strawberry Fields Forever" adalah sebuah lagu The Beatles. Lagu ini ditulis oleh John Lennon dan dikaitkan dengan kemitraan Lennon-McCartney. Lagu ini terinspirasi oleh kenangan Lennon bermain di taman Salvation Army bernama "Strawberry Field" di dekat rumah masa kecilnya.
"Strawberry Fields Forever" dimaksudkan untuk album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) dan merupakan lagu pertama yang direkam untuk album itu, tetapi malah dirilis pada bulan Februari tahun 1967 sebagai rekaman ganda dengan "Penny Lane" karya Paul McCartney. "Strawberry Fields Forever" mencapai nomor delapan di Amerika Serikat, dan banyak kritikus menggambarkannya sebagai salah satu rekaman terbaik kelompok The Beatles. Lagu ini merupakan salah satu karya khas genre psychedelic rock dan telah dicover oleh banyak seniman. Lagu ini disertakan dalam album Magical Mystery Tour LP versi AS (meskipun tidak ada pada EP Inggris dengan nama yang sama).
Awal mula
Strawberry Field adalah nama panti asuhan Salvation Army yang mengitari sudut rumah masa kecil lennon di Woolton yang terletak di pinggiran Liverpool. Lennon dan teman-teman masa kecilnya Pete Shotton, Nigel Walley,dan Ivan Vaughan sering bermain dekat tempat itu. Lennon diajak salah satu temannya untuk mengikuti pesta kebun tahunan yang diiringi band Salvation Army.
Lagu "Strawberry Fields Forever" karya Lennon dan "Penny Lane" karya McCartney keduanya mengandung tema nostalgia untuk tahun-tahun awal mereka di Liverpool. Meskipun keduanya terinspirasi oleh lokasi nyata, lagu yang bernama sama memiliki nuansa surealistik dan psychedelic yang kuat. Produser George Martin mengatakan bahwa ketika ia pertama kali mendengar "Strawberry Fields Forever", dia merasakan "impresionistik mimpi" seperti ia sedang "kabur".
