Costume Designers Guild Award for Excellence in Contemporary Film
Annual CDG film award
The Costume Designers Guild Award for Excellence in Contemporary Film is one of the annual awards given by the Costume Designers Guild.
At the 1st Costume Designers Guild Awards ceremony held in 1999 (celebrating excellence in film and television of 1998), all films, regardless of genre, competed in a combined Excellence in Film category. Among the inaugural nominees, three were period dramas, except for The Truman Show, which was the only modern-set film recognized, while the eventual winner, Pleasantville, was a fantasy film. The award was split into two categories, Excellence in Contemporary Film and Excellence in Period/Fantasy Film, at the following ceremony. Since 2005, the latter category was further divided into Excellence in Period Film and Excellence in Fantasy Film, with each genre receiving its own award.
