The station opened on 1 October 1897, named Ōtsu Station (大津駅).[2] It was renamed Izumiōtsu Station on 1 July 1942.[2] The station was rebuilt as an elevated station, completed on 4 August 2012.[2]
Passenger statistics
In fiscal 2019, the station was used by an average of 29,433 passengers daily.[3]
