Shimshit
Shimshit (Hebrew: שִׁמְשִׁית) is a secular community settlement in northern Israel. Located to the north-west of Nazareth, it falls under the jurisdiction of Jezreel Valley Regional Council. In 2022 it had a population of 2,441.[1] HistoryThe village was established in the summer of 2000. The architect and entrepreneur of the village, as part of the Galilee Progress, was Tzibi Springer, who took over the tasks of planning, and managing the construction of the village after the Housing Ministry abandoned the project. Shimshit was named after the nearby archaeological tell. Shimshit's admissions committee evaluates all potential new residents to ensure compatibility with the community's character and culture. The committee rejects Arab applicants[2] which locals justify by citing Israeli laws requiring local councils to allocate significant funds for religious facilities for residents. They argue that such resources would need to be allocated if non-Jewish residents were accepted. Additionally, locals claim that Arab applicants have been rejected on the basis that they do not align with the cultural values of the community. References
