Do you have a list of Wikipedia articles you need to work on?
By using AutoWikiBrowser (AWB), you can skip a step on each one because it will load each page for you.
As soon as you save (or skip) the page you are working on, it loads the next one automatically.
But because AutoWikiBrowser is so powerful (it has many useful features), it is reserved for users who have made at least 500 edits in the main namespace.
System requirement: Internet Explorer (which AWB uses in the background).
Marty2Hotty It is well recognized that, often, when a fighter is released from the UFC, most media media do not report on the event. As a result, we remove fighters from the list of current UFC competitors if they have not participated in a UFC event within the past two years. Additionally, fighters are removed if their fight record on Sherdog indicates participation in another promotion. We utilize the UFC watch to maintain the updated list. We always substitute UFC watch when we find an independent, reliable source reporting the event. Should you wish, you may choose to eliminate or revert all UFC Watch sources from the articles, thereby retaining all fighters who have departed from the UFC on the list of current UFC fighters, and in their respective articles that they are still considered UFC fighters. Cassiopeiatalk16:05, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That is right, but it conflicts what you previously said about not using social media, right? :) You said you cannot use social media for a source, but here you can? Why? You didn't explain why it is okay here.
So, your answer is the media does not always report it, right? This is the case for certain situations as well. Also, the answer is the roster watch is "reliable", is it not? Please answer. Marty2Hotty (talk) 21:22, 25 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Basically, it can be used in sparing cases when the source is very reliable like UFC Roster Watch on X (social media), right?
Marty2Hotty As I said, should you wish, you may choose to eliminate or revert all UFC Watch sources from the articles, thereby retaining all fighters who have departed from the UFC on the list of current UFC fighters, and in their respective articles that they are still considered UFC fighters. I have substitute all the January 25 releases sources on 2025 in UFC and list of UFC current fighters pages. Cassiopeiatalk01:59, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't answer the question. I do not wish to remove any Roster Tracker post because it IS reliable. Most people including the media agree that the Roster Watch X verified source is reliable. Do you agree?
For example, if there is a facebook or X post from UFC (verified) account, it is reliable. Even Marcel Dorff's X posts are reliable because most media cite his X posts as factual.
My point is: some social media can be reliable. Can you agree with this? Even the guidelines on Wikipedia says some social media sources can be used if the post itself is from the person and verified, etc. Marty2Hotty (talk) 11:22, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Basically, social media posts can be used sparingly. We must practice judgment. Roster Watch has been accepted in MMA media as a reliable source.
For bouts, I can agree with you that eventually, they will be reported, but there might be exceptions depending on the circumstances, so it can be used sparingly.
This refutes your original post of "all social media is unreliable", because that is not true, and as per Wikipedia guidelines, this is the case.
Your lack of English ability makes these conversations extremely difficult for me, and for anyone who interacts with you on the page, because you fail to address points logically. Marty2Hotty (talk) 11:33, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I asked you about UFC awards before and I said it is not often reported by the media, so a verified UFC social media account is reliable and can be used sparingly.
When I asked you about UFC Roster Watch on X (verified gold), you said media does not report all roster removals, so we can use this X post as a reliable source. So, this is against your "all social media posts are unreliable".
There is a reason why X, Facebook, YouTube links are not banned on Wikipedia because they can be used, but we need to practice judgment of course. Sparingly is the case. It is better for things to be reported on mmajunkie, mmafighting, etc, but occasionally, we might be able to accept social media posts.
I utilize an application to verify my written communication. If there is a lack of understanding, it becomes challenging to engage in dialogue, particularly as there appears to be a reluctance to read messages, especially those containing guidelines or information that diverges from your own perspective. Consequently, we do not consider social media as a reliable source; this applies universally. I have replaced the sources from x.com in the List of current UFC fighters and the 2025 UFC. I have no further comments. Cassiopeiatalk02:16, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
In 2024/2023/2022 in UFC, Roster Watch is used as a source. All MMA Media relies on Roster Watch X for roster removals and many do not report it.
In your own words: "We utilize the UFC watch [on X] to maintain the updated list.". This conflicts with your "we do not consider social media as a reliable source" statement. So you cannot come to any conclusion.
Social media as a whole might not be reliable if the account is not reliable, like a random person. But in sparing situations like Roster Watch and others, it can be used. Thank you. You answered your own question. I just wanted to call you out on it because it appears hypocritical. So, please keep that in mind when coaching other editors and pay attention to where the source is coming from. Roster Watch X is one of many exceptions. "Joe1234" on X is not reliable. "mma_kings" (Nolan King) might be reliable but we can wait for updates to be posted on MMAJunkie. In rare situations, it can be used - this is on Wikipedia Marty2Hotty (talk) 07:11, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The importance of reliable fact-checking has been emphasized to you numerous times over the past few years. It is essential to verify the credibility of the sources from which information is obtained. We utilize reputable, reliable sources, such as MMA Junkie, for fact-checking the info they get, and we use reputable, reliable sources for inline citations. If you don't understand this, I have no more further comments. Cassiopeiatalk07:50, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I previously indicated that we would replace the a reliable and independent source. However, upon further reflection, I have decided not to proceed with this substitution. This decision aims to ensure consistency and to minimize unnecessary discussions, which I have communicated before and seem not to have been understood by you. So, we dont use X.com. Hi! I created a new account on Wikipedia. Can you please tell me if I can create new articles when the account is more than 4 days old or will I also have to edit 10 articles first? And if I am able to create articles, can I send them to you first for a quick check? --RichardBellory (talk) 14:50, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
RichardBellory Thank you for your inquiry. A newly registered user on the English Wikipedia is required to have made a minimum of 10 edits with an account that is at least 4 days old. Both of these criteria must be satisfied prior to the creation of a new article. I highly recommend that you review and adhere to the guidelines provided at WP:Your first article before initiating the process of article creation. Cassiopeiatalk10:01, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Updates for editors
iOS Wikipedia App users worldwide can now access a personalized Year in Review feature, which provides insights based on their reading and editing history on Wikipedia. This project is part of a broader effort to help welcome new readers as they discover and interact with encyclopedic content.
Edit patrollers now have a new feature available that can highlight potentially problematic new pages. When a page is created with the same title as a page which was previously deleted, a tag ('Recreated') will now be added, which users can filter for in Special:RecentChanges and Special:NewPages. [1]
Later this week, there will be a new warning for editors if they attempt to create a redirect that links to another redirect (a double redirect). The feature will recommend that they link directly to the second redirect's target page. Thanks to the user SomeRandomDeveloper for this improvement. [2]
Wikimedia wikis allow WebAuthn-based second factor checks (such as hardware tokens) during login, but the feature is fragile and has very few users. The MediaWiki Platform team is temporarily disabling adding new WebAuthn keys, to avoid interfering with the rollout of SUL3 (single user login version 3). Existing keys are unaffected. [3]
For developers that use the MediaWiki History dumps: The Data Platform Engineering team has added a couple of new fields to these dumps, to support the Temporary Accounts initiative. If you maintain software that reads those dumps, please review your code and the updated documentation, since the order of the fields in the row will change. There will also be one field rename: in the mediawiki_user_history dump, the anonymous field will be renamed to is_anonymous. The changes will take effect with the next release of the dumps in February. [4]
Hi, it's me, Opal. I'm sorry if I came off as nagging a while back when I asked you about grading my work on the NPPS page. Another semester of college just started for me, so if you'd like to wait until late May to continue the page, I'm fine with that. Question from Andy Yinger (02:03, 30 January 2025)
Hi.this is all overwhelming! I simply wanted to add information about my deceased father who was a coach at central mo state college in the 50s. I found the info on central mo coaches and just wanted to add him. I have researched and have citations but I started this in 2000 for his obituary but do not have sources on his win loss records. Can I submit info and some one write it since I have. Coi --Andy Yinger (talk) 02:03, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Andy Yinger Good day. I believe you edited the information above prior to your registration on Wikipedia. In order to evaluate the matter, please provide the name of the article in question. Regards. Cassiopeiatalk05:13, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi the category is Central Missouri Mules football coaches. I want to add my deceased dad to it as he was head coach there in the 50s. I am sure I can write and use citations but the pages have charts for information, win loss records. How is that completed? And may I quote the college media guides, although I know no way an editor access them. I do not recall the sources I used to compile the win loss records, as we did not use the inhis obituary. Please advise.Andy Yinger (talk) 18:42, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Andy Yinger. I could not find the article name you mentioned above. There are 2 articles regarding "Central Missouri Mules football" - see "HERE". I need the name of the article which is stated on the top left of the page or give me the URL of the page. Secondly, please give me the source and the info which you want to add and I will add the info for you. Cassiopeiatalk02:31, 31 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi as you will see there are 34 pages in this category and I wanted to add my dad with your help.I have also been blocked due to I pad and work around through wi if. And I started article in sandbox please advise. Andy Yinger (talk) 00:49, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Andy Yinger, OK, now I understand what you meant. Your father (the subject) needs to have an article in the main space of Wikipedia in order to add his name in the category. To have a article/page in Wikipedia, the subject needs to meet the WP:GNG guidelines. That means the subject needs to have significant, from independent, reliable (secondary sources) sources, whereby the sources talk about the subject in length and dept an not passing mentioned. So you father is not currently have a page in Wikipedia, so his name can not be included in the said category. Regards. Cassiopeiatalk01:00, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks but there is still misunderstanding. I want to create an article to include my deceased dad who was a central Missouri state football coach. The responses from Wikipedia never stated there had to be a stand alone article for him to be listed, but the creation of one, to be placed in the said category. I note that several of the men listed as coaches in that category were at central as assistants at one time. My dad coached football at central for ten years and later became an administrator at the college. This category to date contains biographical information on these men. Thank you Andy Yinger (talk) 02:20, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Andy Yinger If you put your father info in, that means you have a WP:COI (conflict of interest), which means you have to WP:DECLARE you COI on your user page and catogory page. Secondly, if you place a subject which does not have their page on the cat, then the info place will be removed. Cassiopeiatalk02:28, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello! I was interested in looking at the page for the Gulf of Mexico just to observe the chaos in the Talk page (I have nothing to add to that debate), and while perusing the article, a line caught my eye under the Geology section listing life forms which subsist in a particular brine pool within the gulf. I'm biologically inclined, and the inclusion of bacteria on that list but not archaea seemed off to me. I went down a little rabbit hole and ended up emailing Erik Cordes, the researcher in charge of the expedition - he suggested the term "microbes" over "bacteria," and confirmed that there are lots of archaea in the pool. I can provide proof of this correspondence if needed - the main thing is that I need help suggesting the change! I'm new to this and any help would be amazing. --Halterian (talk) 04:03, 31 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Halterian Good day. Firstly, any added or modified content must be substantiated by an independent and reliable published source, specifically a secondary source, such as those from major newspapers or books, in accordance with Wikipedia's core policy of verification. Sources derived from social media, organizational websites, educational institutions, government entities, foundations, and private companies are generally deemed unreliable and/or not independent. Given that Erik Cordes is the principal researcher overseeing the expedition, the associated source is classified as a primary source rather than an independent one. Furthermore, the emailed source does not qualify as a "published" source. I identified two entries related to "bacteria" in the Gulf of Mexico and both sources state "bacteria" - see SOURCE 1, and SOURCE 2.
