Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

afcrc-helper Feature Request: Don't add to watchlist

Hey @Eejit43,

I have used your script to create about 40-50 redirects till now. I would greatly appreciate if there was a feature to not add pages created to watchlist, as most of the times it is not needed, and one is just bombarded with notifications of it being reviewed. It can be as simple as a set variable in our common.js file, or maybe a toggle setting inside the menu.

Thanks for your time! ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 14:56, 29 October 2024 (UTC)

I'm glad you have found the script useful! The script relies on user preferences for watching pages, found at Preferences → Watchlist → Watched pages → Tick Add pages and files I move edit to my watchlist.
I'll think about the best way to override this, but I'll likely add a common.js override. ~ Eejit43 (talk) 15:09, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick response. That is useful, but it will also not add pages that we create or move automatically to the watchlist. So a .js override will be best. No pressure though, take your time, but please do drop me a message if you do. Thanks for the wonderful script ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 15:23, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
This has been implemented through a window.afcrcConfig. createdPageWatchMethod option, see User:Eejit43/scripts/afcrc-helper § Configuration for more information. ~ Eejit43 (talk) 16:50, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick fix. This will greatly improve ones experience of using this script. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 10:45, 30 October 2024 (UTC)

AfcRC helper redirect cat feature request

Hi @Eejit43

Sorry for bugging you again about the script. As I have seen, most of the redirects created for a single request have the same selection of rcats. So, of there was a way to specify r cat for the entire request, then that would remove the work of mannualy entering the same category for each redirect.

This is probably a bit more lengthy than the last one, but hope you can fulfill it. Thanks for the script and continued support given. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 04:47, 31 October 2024 (UTC)

Not a bother at all! This is a good idea, and is something that has been on my list for a while. While I can't promise this will be resolved soon, it is definitely on my list and hope to complete it once I have the time! ~ Eejit43 (talk) 13:46, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for considering every feature request one raises. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 15:15, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
+1 on this feature request. LR.127 (talk) 20:03, 2 November 2024 (UTC)

Hello! Hope everything's going okay.

Just now, I was unable to load the script (more specifically, I could not find it in the Tools menu anymore on the WP:AFC/R page). What are some standard troubleshooting procedures that you would recommend me go through? I don't think the issue is complex.

Thanks so much for what you've done with the script - it's truly saved me loads of time :-). LR.127 (talk) 20:03, 2 November 2024 (UTC)

I'm so glad you've found the script helpful! Thank you so much for pointing out that issue, it was an issue with a recent refactor that I didn't catch. Seems to be working now, but let me know if you have any issues! :) ~ Eejit43 (talk) 20:11, 2 November 2024 (UTC)

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:45, 19 November 2024 (UTC)

afcrc-helper Feature Request: Creation of talk page be optional

Can the creation of the talk page after a redirect has been accepted (e.g. Talk:Chevrolet C/K (4th generation)) be a optional feature like the above watchlist thing and be configurable in our commons.js? Thanks again for the script, it helps a lot. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 13:12, 25 November 2024 (UTC)

I believe it is generally standardized that these talk pages should be created. {{WikiProject Articles for creation}} does say that "In articles created through Articles for Creation (AFC), please place this template at the top of the article's talk page...", and is further mentioned at Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Assessment. While that doesn't explicitly state that it is required, I'm hesitant about turning this off. The talk page is categorized in categories such as Category:AfC submissions by date/25 November 2024, and is something that should probably remain for tracking purposes.
If you'd like, I'm happy to open a discussion at WT:AFC regarding this (or you are welcome to), as I am not entirely familiar with the requirements of using this template. ~ Eejit43 (talk) 16:50, 25 November 2024 (UTC)

New decline option for afcrc helper

Hey @Eejit43, is it possible for you to add another delcine option for redirects on the lines of autofill:unrelated or autofill:unmentioned saying The title you suggested is not related to and not mentioned in the target article. Could you provide a source showing that it is a commonly used alternate name?. This will be useful where the title is not specifically unlikely but it is just not related to the article. Thanks for your continued contributions! ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 08:30, 24 December 2024 (UTC)

While you are at it, can you update the afcrc helper to include the new rcat I included {{R to subsection}}. Currently, it is showing as a redirect with possibilities.
Also, for the autofix of redirect helper, if {{R to subsection}} is there, {{R to section}} should not be suggested as an autofix. Thanks again! ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 08:38, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
Sure thing, I'd be happy to add that autofill! Regarding {{R to subsection}}, is that rcat really needed? In my opinion differentiating between sections and subsections isn't really necessary, and just adds added complexity to tagging. I can run an update on the tags list, but I think the existence of that template should be discussed. Thanks! :) ~ Eejit43 (talk) 19:12, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
Thanks. Currently the rcat is on 770 pages, with it being a redir till now. It was tagged with possibilities, hence I created it. Feel free to starta discussion if you think is not needed. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 04:36, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
Sounds good! The new option has been added, and the rcat data has been updated for {{R to subsection}}. I'll wait on the autofix as I may open up a discussion regarding that template. Thanks again, and happy holidays! ~ Eejit43 (talk) 05:22, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
Thanks, and happy holidays to you as well! ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 05:27, 25 December 2024 (UTC)

Sort Name Template

Hey,

Quick Question. What does adding the M|F to the R from sort name template do? Blethering Scot 17:19, 28 December 2024 (UTC)

Hello! Those parameters add categorization, in this case Category:Redirects from sort names, M
and Category:Redirects from sort names by article title, F. Those are the first characters of the redirect and the target article, respectively. You can find more information at Template:R from sort name/doc § Parameters. :) ~ Eejit43 (talk) 23:16, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
