Hi Eugene, In reference to your suggestions, I have the following response.

1. 1-6 applies specifically to Mr. Clark as the DD 214 documents his military service dates for the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army and was issued by the Department of Defense.

1. 8-20 gives the schools and universities where Mr. Clark received his education and includes where he served as an Adjunct Professor which was also a part of his military career. I feel it would be an injustice to Mr. Clark not to include this information.

1. 38 is the U.S. Marine Corps official website which I feel is appropriate for a retired veteran as it gives information about that branch of the military in which he served his country.

1. 45 is the NRA official website for which he is a life member and he earned the rating of Master Shooter, the highest rating of the National Rifle Association and he have membership in the very exclusive NRA "2650 Club.”

1. 77-85 specifies Mr. Clark’s masonic organization affiliations and other affiliations which is a very important part of his accomplishments and contributions to his community.

I do not feel that these items should be removed.

@Elaine58 and Chris1834: Elaine, I'm sorry. I'm having problems understanding how those particular sources meet the WP:V and WP:NOR policies, specifically from the policy on no original research:

"...you must be able to cite reliable, published sources that are directly related to the topic of the article, and directly support the material being presented."

Of the citations I question, Mr. Clark's DD214s are not published, they are Mr. Clark's personal documents that comprise original research. The remaining citations do not directly support the facts you present, as none of them specifically mention Mr. Clark. Yes, they are official websites, but other editors could not verify the facts in the article by consulting these sources. Please understand, I do not question the facts you present, nor do I mean disrespect of Mr. Clark's impressive career. I do question the merits of including citations that are irrelevant to verifying the facts in the article. Thanks for considering my comments. --Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 17:33, 26 August 2014 (UTC)

Re: images of copyrighted works of art at Wikipedia. Gosh, it is so convoluted that I avoid it like the plague and have difficulty explaining it to others. No doubt there are helpful links here at Wikipedia or at Wikimedia Commons. Long story short, images of works of art created in 1926 (I think?) or older are in the public domain. These images can be hosted at Wikimedia Commons . However, uploading images of most recent works becomes more complicated... did the artist copyright the work? When did the artist die? etc. When I upload an image of a contemporary work of art here at Wikipedia, I just use the Wizard at "Upload file" (on the main sidebar). They can be used here under a fair use license (just one low quality image of the sculpture). Here is my best explanation, but apologies, I'm definitely not the best editor to ask. ---Another Believer _(Talk) 23:20, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi, happened to spot this discussion -- I'm happy to help if needed. First, a couple resources:

• commons:Commons:Freedom_of_panorama#United_States will give you a general idea what is needed. Long story short, in the USA, buildings are not subject to copyright, but public art is. So in practice, only sculptures whose copyright has expired can have their photos uploaded to Commons (or to Wikipedia in high resolution). (In theory, there might be some sculpture that's in the public domain to begin with, or whose creator used a free license; but you're not going to run into that in real life.)
• commons:Commons:Licensing#Material_in_the_public_domain The US has strange copyright expiration laws (you can thank Disney and Sonny Bono for that). Copyright has expired for anything that was published before 1923. (With a sculpture, I'd imagine that means "placed in public view" before 1923.) More recently than that, it gets a little complex, and you'll need to search databases to see whether copyright was filed for/renewed; see the link for that.
• As a general resource, see WP:Wikipedia Loves Monuments. That's an approach to getting the kind of photos you're talking about; if you can find people who've organized WLM events, they will likely be happy to help you sort this stuff out, as they've dealt with it more than most.

I don't think the deletions were vandalism. There was some discussion of the appropriateness of various sources on the talk page, and there were several editors who seemed to be deleting material about Syed's appeals based on WP:NPOV rationales. Cwobeel worked to restore material and ensure NPOV language. But perhaps more material on the appeals should be included. Nice work creating the article on Bristow! I'm a bit confused by the timeline, though. How did he get from the Salem area back to Lane County? I also noticed you started a draft on Weller. I have a Weller pot (it's cracked, naturally) if you'd like me to take a picture of it for the article. It's nowhere near as fancy as the one in the (somewhat dreadful) article about the pottery but it might serve. In a previous life I was somewhat obsessed with American pottery. I now merely have an insane amount of Fiestaware mugs, and I try to stay away from the pottery articles. Though the Oregon Pottery Company in Buena Vista, Oregon is a worthy topic. Cheers! Thanks for the encouragement! I added a bit more about the route, which sounds to me like they wandered around a bit trying to find a spot far enough away from the settlements to the north.

I started the Weller article more than a year ago and I have misplaced the books on Weller Pottery that I bought then-- need to clean my garage! I became interested because my mother-in-law collected Weller ware, and her sister collected Roseville pots. They used to shop the Goodwill and Salvation Army, buying pots for up to 25 cents...worth every penny, many cracked. So most of her collection is cluttering up my garage, probably 50 vases, candle holders, and odd pieces that may have values in excess of $500 if you believe the auction sites. (Could I give you some Weller ware?)

There are two problems with that image. Most importantly, see WP:NFC#UUI. You cannot use a non-free image of a person who is alive, minus a few small exceptions. As in, you could go out with your camera (or some other Wikipedian) and re-create that photo. The other problem, which is more for future uploads, is the picture is way too big. You need to reduce the file size, to probably about 20% of the original. Keeping it that big means people could use the Wikipedia stored one to replace the original photo. I believe there is even a bot that goes around tagging ones that are too big. It only needs to be big enough to show a thumbnail size image on the article page. I know you likely will not be able to replace the image easily, but copyright is not about being easy. Aboutmovies (talk) 22:27, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

You are most welcome. I'm so glad you've become a Wikipedian, though I haven't said so before. The gender imbalance skews the whole encyclopedia, and I don't think that can be fixed except through gender balance. The more women editors, the stronger the encyclopedia until we get to something like 50-50. Finetooth (talk) 02:56, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

I do try to make sure I rewrite or paraphrase but I occasionally get caught up in references or forget to for a section. Doesn't happen too often but more than it should. I check for copyvio every so often but still, I am grateful when people notice and let me know as I can so easily go back and fix it. A tag has been placed on File:Serial (podcast) logo.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.
