Have been using Wikipedia for a long time. Ready to contribute wherever necessary.

I've reverted your edits for two reasons. First, they were a copyright violation. If you were to rewrite it so it wasn't what we call copyvio, it would have to look very different from the original, not just a paraphrase. But even if you did, the website fails our criteria at WP:RS. If you disagree you can ask at WP:RSN. Sorry that no one gave you a welcome message earlier, you somehow slipped through the cracks. You are very welcome and I feel bad reverting a new editor. I feel even worse because I have to tell you about another policy that tripped me up several times when I was new. It's called 'No original research' - see WP:NOR, and means that we have to source any arguments not just from reliable sources but from reliable sources that specifically discuss the subject of the article. So any arguments about Theudas have to be based upon what reliable sources say about him. It is very, very different from writing an essay, journal article or book. I'd like you to look at your latest edit and see if it meets these criteria. We have discussion boards for most things, we have WP:NORN to discuss questions about original research. What you've written now looks like OR to me I'm afraid. I tried to refute a book claiming Troy was in England doing the same thing, and was rightly reverted. Oh, and citations - do you see a tool bar above the edit window you type in? On the right there should be a dropdown menu call cite, click on them at then on the left click on templates, and use those. With books you have to click on 'add extra fields' (or show, can't recall) as you should add page numbers. Keep citations in the same style as the rest of the article - you may need to read WP:CITE. Definitely I need to learn more to become a good Wiki editor :) Very appreciate your kind encouragements. I agree that Wikipedia is not a place for personal "A ha" or "Eureka" announcement, even if it is useful, but it should be a place where many people edit an entry together merging information from different sources to get much closer to the truthful information. It is a liberation for common people to know things that in the past only a number of scholars hold behind the closed doors of higher knowledge fortress. That's why some "authoritative" sources are scarce and hard to find out there, although the implications are easy enough for a curious mind to see and useful for a fair argument. In case of Theudas, I find that there are enough voices to doubt Josephus wrote the same Theudas as the one Gamaliel mentioned. However, it seems that "authoritative scholars" are still propagating old proposition which originally was cautiously noted "pending to newer information" but limited to certain people (without the benefit of internet at the time). The original author I cite (Glenn Miller) has written a balanced explanation with proper citations and informative sources, useful for all to ponder. It has been told and said by others, but his exposition is the most comprehensive thusfar on the internet, and not just one's personal opinion. The point is not on the messenger (Miller) but on the message. There is a serious doubt, but those "authoritative scholars" are slow to make revision on "primary sources", while the Wikipedia should be more up-to-date now than waiting for them to catch on.

I will strive to uphold a high quality of editing, fair, balanced and worthy, while keep improving one-sided dogma from old, set-in-the stone, fairy tale that "uneducated public" should not question.

It might be more useful actually to have a nav box at the end just for Acts with all of the chapters and related articles contained within it. After all you've got the "next chapter" option in the infobox at the top? Do you intend creating an article on every chapter of the bible? That would be quite an achievement! It would be good for some of the articles to have some biblical scholar commentary and analysis though.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:38, 28 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

John,

On Template:Acts of the Apostles, you added an interlanguage link to id:Templat:Kisah Para Rasul. The correct way, nowadays, to do this is not to add the link to the template, but instead add it to Wikidata, thus keeping all the interlanguage links in one central repository. That way, when a new article appears, only the central repository has to be altered. See WP:WIKIDATA.

Adding an interlanguage link to Wikidata is quite easy:

1. .In the bar on the left, you will see a heading "Languages"
2. If there are no other-language articles linked to this one, you will (normally) see a link "Add links".
3. .Otherwise you will see a list of languages, followed by an "Edit links" link.
4. Just click on "Add/Edit links", and follow the fairly obvious instructions.
5. Make sure the hard-coded interlanguage links have been removed from both pages, and that the correct link(s) from Wikidata appear on both pages.

However, in this case there are a couple of problems:

1. The presence of the hard-coded interlanguage link in the template suppresses the "Add links" link, so you will need to get rid of it first.
2. .There is/was a bug in the system affecting this process - see Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 130#Wikidata language linking error. It is/was due to be fixed today. Give it a try anyway!

Thanks for the information. This time, it is not as straight-forward as it should be. After several attempts to bypass the bugs, I decided to use the "old way" to place the links. Following your message, I tried again. This time I created a new article in Wikidata ("Template:Acts of the Apostles"). It just creates a blank page with the text I entered. I link the Wikipedia en: and id: pages to it, from the "link" option of the left column. Then, a form (with descriptions and links etc.) appeared as it should be. Finally, I remove the wikidatawiki link at the bottom of the page. Now everything looks normal. Peace. JohnThorne (talk) 18:16, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have long thought that every chapter in the Bible--and many subchapter units--ought to have a WP article, but these are likely to be challenged. I'm prepared to defend them if they are done properly. You need to add a variety of criticism from every pertinent major tradition, (and indicate which tradition) --its absurd to base most of the text on an extensive quote from a 1740's source. We normally do not consider reprinting extensive text from a particular POV that makes up a bulk of an article to be appropriate content, even with attribution. If you're going to use it, you need to specify that this is one traditional exposition/paraphrase, and use it in smaller excerpts. DGG ( talk ) 20:23, 19 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@DGG: Thank you for the information. It is hoped that more users will contribute to each chapter or refer them using links in other articles. The quote is selected as a start, because that source is no longer protected by copyright, while the legality of quotes from other sources may may be disputed. My suggestion is to abbreviate the quotes greatly ,and give the religious affiliation. That it's PD doesn't mean it's reliable. What the article should have in short quotes, and they are permitted by fair use. You know the major commentaries better than I do.
