On 30 August 2023, during the 2023 Ukrainian counteroffensive, Ukrainian troops reached the northwestern outskirts of Verbove.[5] On 6 September, Ukrainian troops advanced along the line of Russian fortifications and entered the northwestern part of the village.[6][7][8] By January 2024, Russian forces were engaged in counter-offensive operations in areas close to the village. Ukrainian and Russian forces continue in small-scale engagements along the line of their positions between Verbove and Robotyne.[9]

Ukrainian and Russian forces stated that positional engagements continued near Robotyne and Verbove (east of Robotyne). One Russian milblogger claimed that Russian forces may have seized Robotyne but noted that this information is still unconfirmed. Other milbloggers claimed that Ukrainian forces still maintain positions in Robotyne, and ISW has not observed visual evidence showing that Russian forces have completely captured the settlement. Elements of the Chechen 'Vostok' Akhmat Battalion are reportedly operating near Robotyne.
