Pathanamthitta serial sexual abuse
The Pathanamthitta serial sexual assault is a series of child sexual abuse cases that took place in a village in Pathanamthitta district from 2018 to 2024. In this, a Dalit girl was killed.[1] The investigation into this case began when 18-year-old Athijeevitha (Survivor) revealed to the Child Welfare Committee that she had been sexually abused by several people, including friends and classmates, since the age of 13.[citation needed] The Child Welfare Committee received information about 62 people through Athijeevitha's counseling. After examining this, a special Kerala Police team arrested the accused.[2] In addition to POCSO Act, the police also filed a case against them under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act.[citation needed] The accused took the girl and sexually abused her in isolated places in the district. Police report that the girl, who is an athlete, was exploited by her coaches. IncidentThis case: A girl from Pathanamthitta informed her teacher and the District Child Welfare Committee that she was blackmailed and sexually exploited by many people from 13 to 18 (2018-2024), and the police registered a case. The rape case has been investigated. During the counseling conducted by the Women's Commission, the girl revealed the extent of the rape and the Women's Commission informed the police. On January 10, 2025, a case was registered at the Ilavumthiya police station. On January 20, 2025, District Police Chief Kumar announced that all the accused on the list, except for two who are currently abroad, have been arrested.[3] Investigation and legal proceedingsKerala Police has formed a special team to investigate the Pathanamthitta rape case. A team of 25 officers, including the Pathanamthitta SP and DySP, is investigating the case under the supervision of DIG Ajitha Begum. The investigation was started following a request from the National Commission for Women. The investigation team is led by Pathanamthitta DySP S Nandakumar. 56 people were arrested in 2025. 35 FIRs were registered. The investigation team is supervised by DIG Ajitha Begum.[4] Investigation findingsInvestigation officials found that several people had sent obscene pictures to the phone used by the girl. There were also those who took nude pictures of the girl and threatened and tortured her. The girl and the accused communicated on the mobile phone of her father, who did not know how to use a smartphone. The police also found that the girl's phone number and nude pictures were widely circulated.[5][6][7] The girl was assaulted at a private bus stand in Pathanamthitta. Auto drivers were among those who exploited the girl. The girl gave a statement against 62 people. The arrest was based on information from the phone and diary.
