Good evening MurielMary. I was hoping to clarify the source content requirement with you.

After reviewing the links that you attached, I think that the only two questionable sources on the article would be the patents that Dr. O'Hara is featured on. Since peer-reviewed articles make up the bulk of the sources, and those are considered non-self published, I would think those are fine.

My question would be: if I remove the two sources from her patents, are the rest of the sources ok?

Hello! I'm really unsure why this page was denied. She is a foremost figure in the Mothers of Gynecology Movement which has it's own wikipedia page. As an artist, her work was literally called notable by the New York Times: "Browder’s work has been featured in The New York Times as a notable representation of Montgomery’s complicated past[27] and as a representation of the evolution of civil rights[28] as well as commemorating the centennial ratification of women’s right to vote.[29]"

I do not understand, especially when other not-as-notable people seem to get stub articles approved. Is it because Black Lives Matter etc doesn't seem to interest people? Please advise.

Re: decline due to lack of sources.

I'm just so confused because the page has sources from USA Today, PBS Newshour, The New York Times, and The Boston Globe. These are independent and reliable and objective news sources. Hi, the reason I declined the draft is that there is not enough evidence of notability in independent, objective, reliable sources - the article needs at least three sources. Hello there! I once made a draft for American singer Draft:Gabi DeMartino in July 2021 and you declined it (I totally understand why) but I think since I added more sources could you re-review it? Also both members of the Niki and Gabi duo has gone solo in 2019 so I think they need individual articles so it would be more organized and understandable, just like the Chloe x Halle members, if you could help me with making the Gabi DeMartino draft much better to become an actual article it would mean a lot, thank you and have a great day! Hi @MurielMary - I see that you declined Draft:Nina_Krajnik who is a public intelectual whose work is covered in several international media without giving precise information what is missing from the page as proposed. I also noticed you were the author of Ella_Cooke (nurse who was killed in an accident while on active service in Egypt in World War I)... So I wonder if you are maybe able to explain how these two can compare in terms of visibility, notability and relevance considering also diverse reference sources? You made two comments on why this article was not accepted, which I hope you can clarify. The first one was for me to make a statement of my conflict. (i was to believe that this was resolved previously with another reviewer and since has not come up" so please let me know why you have flagged this and they dit not since my first review.) Second comment was about the subject not meeting the notability criteria for a write. Can you please confirm where I can find this criteria as the "subject" is a known author across the world (yes small) but has 3 poetry books, 1 #1 best selling "published" children's book in New Zealand, with two additional books coming out. Can you confirm how they do not meet the criteria?

Any assistance to get this approved would be appreciated. Many thanks :)

Hi MurieMary, thanks for coming back to me on this and noting the information for the criteria. Just so you know, Jess is regarded a notable writer here in New Zealand. Her children's books reached number 1 best seller within the first week of its release, and it's included in school curriculums and ECE learning centres, she has been contracted to write another two as well. Her poetry books have remained in the top 20 family poetry chart for the past year on Amazon, her work has featured in Mindful Parenting Magazine, one of Australia's biggest parenting magazines for 4 months running, and had a two page spread in Woman's Day magazine in NZ. Her Instagram following is 182,000 and her Facebook is 82,000. She has featured on many podcasts, one is to be released this week on The Motherkind Podcast which is the top family podcast in the UK. There are a lot of external links I initially included to support her notability, yet I was told to remove them as they were external links and just have them as references. Can you please explain if this doesn't meet the criteria then what else do we need to meet it? Hi Drew, please look at the list of criteria for notability of a writer on Wikipedia (the link is in my comment on the draft). You need to show evidence that the subject of the article meets those criteria. I don't think the evidence is sufficient. Hi Drew. There is limited value to comparing a published biography to your wife's draft. There are some biographies published on WP which have gotten past the usually rigorous checking systems for new articles and have been published when they probably shouldn't have. That doesn't mean that more biographies of subjects who don't meet the notability criteria should be published as well. I appreciate that NZ is your main area of interest and there is a brief connection, in that two of her pupils went on to open their own school of dance and mime in New Zealand (1922 onwards).

Hi there, MurielMary, and thanks for all your efforts to improve our coverage of women and for encouraging the involvement of new contributors. I am however a little concerned about the Start rating you have given to some of the short articles you have recently created. I see that Rachel Buckland has only 111 words of running text and Minnie Izett only 65. Both ORES and Rater clearly advise a Stub rating. As a result I've now rerated them. There is sometimes a case for allocating a stub rating to historical people for whom there is little chance of an article being expanded. For these two artists who died in the first half of the 20th century, I would be surprised if no more useful information exists, although it might not be immediately available on the internet. It often helps to allocate stub status to an article as many editors seem to prefer working on existing articles rather than creating new ones. By the way, I'm happy to see the successful outcomes of Wikipedia:Meetup/Aotearoa New Zealand Online/International Women's Day 2022 which has just been completed. Hello! Thank you so much for taking the time to review my draft. I had some questions about how to improve it for possible resubmission. If these questions should be put on the helpdesk instead please let me know!

Regarding the filmography and theatre sections, I will definitely update with references. The reason I had not done so before was that looking at other actresses Wikipedia pages, a lot of them did not have references for everything in their filmography etc, so I assumed that if the item in the list had a reference in the main body then it didn’t need one in the filmography etc. I am now assuming that is not the case?

In terms of notability, the subject’s short film that she wrote, produced, directed and starred in has won several awards at international film festivals. I have used interviews with her and two of those film festivals as references. Are these not notable enough? Is there a certain level of publication/magazine/awards body etc that she needs to have engaged with to be considered notable? Or is it that the quality of referencing that I have to support these facts is not strong enough?

Finally, do you think that this page would be better placed on the German Wikipedia platform? I realise that most of my sources and references are for German TV/film/theatre etc, so do you think she would she be deemed more notable on that platform?

Sorry for the amount of questions! I just want to try and understand as best as I can, so that I can make good Wikipedia articles :)

Hello, hope this message finds you well. I was hoping to approach you with a question regarding the declined submission notice I received dated from May 7th. In regards to Maya Gelfman's Wikipedia draft.

I wanted to ask what else can I offer as proof that Mrs. Gelfman is notable enough to earn her a Wikipedia page in English? Thus far I've provided multiple references to independent sources that covered Mrs Gelman's artistic work and professional achievements; including - TedX talks, Newspapers' websites, lists of exhibitions she took part in many different countries across the world, and more. I wonder if there's anything else I can submit to vindicate her as a notable person. I would just like to add a few notable, extraordinary things about this artist, to name a few.

There is an Wikipedia page in Hebrew that already exists for Maya Gelfman. She has exhibited in numerous national galleries and museums. Mentioned in multiple newspapers and articles which can be found online. She has taken part in many, many group exhibitions globally. And has left her mark in many places, whilst creating images and works that have become synonymous with her name (such as her works with red yarn which are presented in many public places around the world). Her works have been published in four different books in Colombia, France, the UK and Germany.

I feel that in light of this plethora of activity and achievements, as can be found in the draft, and the fact that the Hebrew Wikipedia team has already seen fit to allow this to go online on the site, that it would be ok for this draft to go online as well. Clearly this is not enough - so I wanted to cordially ask - what else can I add in here. Any suggestions or guidance will be highly appreciated! I am certain that once you are presented with sufficient data, you will be able to approve the draft. Her career and life are split between Israel, the US and Europe.

I believe that we should encourage female creation and presence online and wiki English is a very important place for artists.

A year after the Performing Arts Aotearoa project started and as we are coming into winter (a busier editing time for many) here is an update.

The Performing Arts Aotearoa Wikiproject now lives on the WikiProject New Zealand page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_New_Zealand/Performing_Arts_Aotearoa

I have added new articles created as part of the Pacific Arts Aotearoa Wikiproject. These articles by new editors include Lusi Faiva, Suli Moa, Edith Amituanai and Amanaki Prescott-Faletau, who was interviewed on Radio New Zealand last Sunday. The reporter let me know the article was valuable for the interview research – great feedback for all of us creating and improving content in Wikipedia.

On the project page is highlighted plenty of articles to create or improve. I invite you to have a look and contribute if you can. There are many long-standing festivals in Aotearoa without articles such as the Hawkes Bay Arts Festival, Tauranga Festival of the Arts, Taranaki International Arts Festival, Nelson Arts Festival and the Christchurch Arts Festival. Creating these Wikipedia pages or Wikidata items allows links to biographies and strengthens the weaving of Wikipedia.

Other suggestions for new articles:

News from the West Coast

Development West Coast have kindly agreed to support another short Wikipedian at Large contract on the West Coast, to cover areas that were missed the first time around: Lake Brunner, Te Wahipounamu, Ōpārara Arches, and Punakaiki. From June 20th to August 26th I'll be improving articles, Wikidata, and photo collections on these areas, and would love some help. We've had a cold snap here on the Coast, but at least the rain's slackened off and I've been able to get out on the blue sunny days and take snapshots • Schwede66 has been sorting out the Paparoa Range, cleaning up mountain wikidata, and expanding the Pororari River • We have a new article about the Truman Track, and a great photo selection for Cave Creek • Our hardest worker has been Marshalc, creating new articles on the Pancake Rocks, Bullock Creek, and the Inland Pack Track amongst others • I took a field trip to Punakaiki and sorted out the Wikidata and photos for every scenic spot between the Strongman Mine Memorial (Q112859334) and Hatters Bay (Q32217346) • If you're still thinking about helping, we could do with expanding the Punakaiki article, and sorting the best Pancake Rocks photos into a Commons gallery • Greymouth photographer Jase Blair donated some beautiful photos of Paparoa National Park which need using • The Avatar moth from Denniston Plateau (with its newly-improved article) will be RNZ's Critter of the Week on Friday • New resource: Mark Pickering's book The Coastal Journey (2010) (Q112841717) is free to download and a great reference • This coming weekend I'm off to Moana on Lake Brunner (to photograph the bays, walks, and especially the Kotuku Model Bungalow (those are all Start-quality icons, hint hint) • Check out the Project page to see jobs there are to do, and how you can help out! Postcard from the West Coast Tuesday 19 July, 2022

Kia ora koutou and once again thank you for all your mahi over the last fortnight • We've been working on articles on the Lake Brunner area; the lake's article is looking heaps better, and it's in the queue for DYK • Marshelec, Swede66, and Turnagra have been the putting in lots of effort, with new articles on the Croesus Track, Mount Te Kinga, and the Pike19 Memorial Track amongst others • We've rescued lots of great photos from Flickr and other public collections • But these weren't enough: I did two field trips to photograph up and down the Punakaiki coast, and halfway around the Arnold Valley and Lake Brunner; numerous new Commons categories and Wikidata images resulted • Progress at the lake was derailed by having to be filmed for the evening news, editing Wikipedia in the open air while being attacked by sandflies (our project mascot is well chosen) • Over the next two weeks the focus shifts to Karamea, all the caves and walks of the Ōpārara Basin, and the Heaphy Track • There is plenty to do: the Wangapeka Track, Honeycomb Hill Cave, and Kahurangi National Park need massive work, so I'm stoked that Marshall and Lyn are joining me for a few days this weekend at Karamea to help • This is an area that critically relies on tourism, and it's embarassing the coverage is so bad in Wikipedia • Check out the Project page to see jobs there are to do, and how you can help out! Kia ora koutou and thanks for helping with this project • It's been a busy fortnight: I visited Karamea with Marshall and Lyn, and we spent the day on the Fenian Track, which now has its own article and over 100 photos of the valley, the local flora and fauna, and the three caves we explored • Yes, there were cave wētā and spiders • I also got to meet with local historians, photographers, and nature buffs who are keen to share photos and deluged me with print materials • The double hook featuring the Paparoa Track and the Pororari River articles appeared in DYK on 25 July and they got 3000 readers between them, but the accompanying DOC video clip got over 400,000 views! • The newly-created Copland Track article was in DYK the next day, and Lake Brunner will feature soon • Great work, everyone • Coming up: Te Wahipounamu and the Haast Pass—I'll be spending three days exploring and photographing the area, and could definitely do with help fleshing out the skeletal coverage of the lakes, localities, rivers, and wetlands of that beautiful part of the world • Check out the Project page to see the north-to-south list for South Westland, and pick something to work on; ask me for a job if you don't have one! Kia ora koutou; we're coming up to the home stretch! • I got back from South Westland with about 400 photos to upload and categorise into Commons • The DOC team down there are very excited about our project; they're busy reopening the Haast-Paringa Cattle Track with a new swingbridge, and I promised we would create an article with photos of all the huts • Archives New Zealand have a wonderful collection of tourist publicity photos on DigitalNZ; you could search them for pics of West Coast places for articles (see the ones I used in Pleasant Flat) • There's still plenty to do over the last fortnight of the project—if you could find some time to pick one of the biggest gaps and have a go at filling it, that would be great • in Haast, we need articles on Okuru (currently a redirect), Hannahs Clearing, the Roaring Billy and Thunder Creek Falls, and Ship Creek; I have photos of all of them • You could also check back through the Punakaiki, Lake Brunner, and North Westland lists for anything that needs expanding • In other news, I'm running an online workshop 7 pm August 23rd on Adding Photos to Commons; enrolment's free, share with any keen photographers you know • We're also having a Wikiblitz this coming Sunday to try to improve the articles about West Coast reptiles, and could use help • Thank you for all your hard work; I'd like to organise an online meetup on Zoom at the end of the project to look back at what we've done and have a think about next steps; will send some possible times • Ka kite ano. — Giantflightlessbirds

Kia ora koutou; well, it's time to wrap up this project • What a wonderful and short ten weeks it's been; I've really appreciated all the mahi people have put into improving articles about the West Coast • There's a summary of what we've managed to achieve in the final report • Briefly: 24 new articles, 5 of them in DYK, 974 edits to 193 articles, adding 73,800 words and 653 citations • We uploaded 1126 photos into numerous new Commons categories • Standouts for me were Schwede66's sorting out all the Paparoa mountains named after famous scientists, Marshelec's work on Karamea and Bullock Creek, and Turnagra creating the Copland Track article • There are small prizes going out to those three, but I also want to acknowledge all the effort of Paora, Chocmilk03, and Gertrude206—great stuff • I'm about to head off to Europe for a month, to attend the Wikimedia Summit and learn what European Wikipedians are up to, but despite time zones would like to have an online catchup with participants soon • Thank you again for all your hard work; ka kite ano and I hope we'll have another bash at the West Coast again soon. Kia ora Ollie, oh that's quite tricky, isn't it! All the secondary sources list him as "Neemia" but you say he's said on air that it should be "Ne'emia"? I think the page name could be "Ne'emia" with a note somewhere in the lead about this being the correct name according to him .... I think do that, and then let's see what other editors think. All of these articles have multiple paragraphs about the subject. The Los Angeles Times is regarded as reliable as per WP:RSP. ELLE is not listed, but the discussion on the notice board suggests editors so far have considered it as reliable. As for C Suite Quarterly, Snyder Diamond, Argonaut News, MyDomaine, and California Home & Design, there has not been enough discussion by Wikipedia editors to form a consensus on their reliability, but all of them have in depth coverage and on first glance some of them seem to have decent editorial standards.

Maybe the issue is that most of these articles had quotes from the subject, so you read them as interviews? I'm sorry to bother you about this, it's just that with all of the coverage in national publications, I'm having trouble seeing how this wouldn't meet WP:SIGCOV. In the notice you left on the draft, there were no details about what the specific issues were, so I'm just trying to better understand your thought process.

Hello MurielMary,

Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.

Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.

Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.

Suggestions:

• There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
• Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
• Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
• This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.

Backlog:

Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

I need a plot summary that meets the draconian rules of Wikipedia. Here is what I have written thus far:

The plot is of one day in the life of Elizabeth Glinka who is the head of Fair Care Foundation in Moscow in 2012. As the day starts, Elizabeth and her husband Gleb Glebovich Glinka are going to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. Elizabeth is waiting for her three sons and close friends to arrive.

Before the party, the last thing she needs to do is drop by Moscow Paveletsky Railway Station to check on weekly patients at the Fair Care fund and to send humanitarian supplies to people in need.

At the clinic, a man calls Doctor Lisa. In a hospital in the Moscow suburbs his five-year-old girl, Eva, who is dying. The doctor on duty has to discharge Eva. Due to medical formalities the child, who suffers from cancer, is left without painkillers. Doctor Lisa agrees to help.

Maybe the problem is that you dont understand Serbian. I will paste you one translate from the article in which Tatjana is just "mentioned" (Story). And there is a lot of similar articles. The reason given was "There is not enough evidence from the cited sources that the subject meets the notability requirements for a biography on WP." This is confusing because 18 citations were used, including articles specifically about Ojo in major publications such as Variety and Adweek. The citations clearly indicate that Ojo is one of the most decorated female business leaders of African descent currently alive. Combined with her recognition from outlets such as Forbes, Fortune, and Financial Times (also cited clearly on the draft page), her profile seems to compare favorably, at minimum, with other women whose pages you have approved, such as Stacy Shortall or Theresa Gattung. I understand that Shortall and Gattung are from your region, whereas Ojo is not, but can you please explain what other criteria factored into your decision to approve their pages while rejecting Ojo's? Can you give me some more feedback on why you declined my Draft:Elizabeth Diggs AfC? Your stated reason was not meeting the inline citation requirements. But the inline standard specifically says that inlines are required for only four categories, the only one relevant here is a statement "likely to be challenged." The list of most of the plays and corresponding awards in my draft are already extensively cited in the body of the article. "For all other types of material, the policies require only that it be possible for a motivated, educated person to find published, reliable sources that support the material, e.g., by searching for sources online or at a library." The list of plays would also meet this test. Unless you feel that someone might challenge whether or not Elizabeth Diggs wrote one of the plays she said she wrote and is distributed on her behalf by a playwright rights agency? In addition, the guidance for reviewing Articles for Creation state: "Articles that will probably survive a listing at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion should be accepted." I think its reasonable to say that my draft would not be deleted, as it doesn't seem to me to meet criteria for deletion. The number one error to avoid for AfC review is "Avoid declining an article because it correctly uses general references to support some or all of the material. The content and sourcing policies require inline citations for only four specific types of material, most commonly direct quotations and contentious material (whether negative, positive, or neutral) about living persons." Hi @MurielMary I wanted message this is the second time you have declined this page. I wanted to add some context to the artist notability. The notability for this artist is the fact that she is also a Somali painter and artist. There is much representation for contemporary art world. For that fact alone I think it’s is important for Wikipedia being a platform to show the understanding of the wider world especially African/black artist which are not as represented on Wikipedia. They are akin to Gagosian and Zwirner which are considered blue chip galleries : high-value artworks by well-established artists – artists with a solid reputation for creating art that increases in value over time. Also the fact that she has represented by one of the biggest and successful art galleries in the world Hauser and Wirth who represent artist on Wikipedia such as Avery Singer, Paul McCarthy, Roni Horn, Alexander Calder, Rashid Johnson, and George Condo Charles Gaines, Glen Ligon, Mark Bradford, Sonya Boyce, The fact that there even isn’t a representation in the Wikipedia artist page by nationality is an issue. I see it was declined based on her notability as a prominent figure. However, I have updated the draft to include the following pertinent information: her Jesus Calling Series (which already has its own Wikipedia page) has sold over 45 million units worldwide, as referenced by global publisher HarperCollins. This makes Sarah Young one of the most successful female Christian authors in all of history. I believe this makes her well within the requirements for her own posthumously published Wikipedia entry.

A+W NZ are bringing back the New Zealand Women in Architecture WikiProject Walking Tour and Wikipedia Edit-a-thon for 2024 with two concurrent in-person events in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland on Saturday 18th May 2024.
